Here are a few stories to read this Monday morning.
- SFWA has changed their name from “of America” to “Association”. They have also changed their membership guidelines.
- I just found a nifty site which will generate an image based on text input.
- There’s a fascinating copyright lawsuit underway right now concerning a photo reproduced as a tattoo.
- BookFunnel has a refresher on what will happen when Amazon stops accepting Mobi files as input.
- If your schedule allows it, there’s a copyright and tech conference you should attend in NYC in September. (I would go if I could.)
- Amazon’s ebook return policy continues to get media attention. I’ve checked, and this is at least the third time authors have complained about this policy in the past decade or so.
- There’s this art project in Norway to plant a new forest just so it can be cut down a century from now and turned into books. What pretentious twaddle.
- Remember a few months back when I said that computer-generated narration is just a couple steps away from being as good as automated ebook conversion? Spotify’s acquisition of Sonantic suggests that day is even closer than we’d think.
P.S. I hadn’t planned to ask anyone for money to support his newsletter, but just the other day i got a reminder from Flattr. This is a Patreon competitor, and I have an account there. If you would like to support this newsletter directly, and not just my web design and other services, you can donate via Flattr.
