Here are a few stories to read this Monday morning.

• Victoria Strauss explains why the bankruptcy contract in book contracts may not protect authors.
• Many indie publishers are noting that B&N is no longer their second largest customer after Amazon.
• BookTok has become mired in drama.
• Using pirated works to train AI has been ruled fair use. 
• While I beleive that a fair use argument could be made about this issue, I also think this ruling itself is bad. If we compare it to Google Books, we see that there’s nothing here to balance the rights of the the creator with the benefit to the public. Google Books limited how scans were used, and also gave copyright holders control. There’s no similar limit or control in the recent AI ruling.
