Here are a few stories to read this Monday morning.
- The new Kindle was leaked by a Spanish retailer. It has a brighter frontlight, but that is just about the only major change.
- I thought “eejit” was an American slang term , but it turns out to be Irish.
- FYI: The folks who control WordPress (Automattic, and more specifically CEO Matt Mullenweg) are engaging in more and more sketchy, almost scammy, behaviors.
Speaking of which, I need to update you on the ongoing drama inside WordPress. The short version of what has happened in the ten days before you read this Monday morning is this:
- On Friday the 20th Matt Mullenweg used his closing keynote at the Wordcamp US conference to attack WP Engine, a reputable hosting company.
- On Saturday the 21st Matt then used his control of the WordPress.org community blog to attack WP Engine again.
- On the following Monday WP Engine’s lawyers published a cease and desist letter where they accused Matt of extortion.
- Matt and Automattic published their own cease and desist letter on Tuesday, and then on Wednesday Matt retaliated against WP Engine’s clients by blocking any site which is hosted by WP Engine from using the official community-run update repository.
Obviously everything is still up in the air, so I can’t tell you what is going to happen next. But I am watching this closely.
