Here are a few stories to read this Monday morning.

  • Ugh, Amazon now lets you use AI-generated images in adverts. https://buff.ly/4fevRan
  • California’s new law regulating the digital content that retailers like Amazon “sell” to you doesn’t go nearly far enough. I want consumers to have first sale rights, but at least the law does require that the license restrictions are spelled out to you.
  • Some authors are butt hurt over celebrities not staying in their own lane (the celebrities are writing kids books, and more importantly selling them by the truckloads).
  • Here are 3 ways authors can use Canva in their book marketing.
  • Sign up for Jane Friedman’s email course on how to make a living as a writer.

P.S. I am on Blue Sky now. It is so much like Twitter that I am kicking myself for how long it took me to join. (I don’t want to seem unfriendly to the people I know on FB, but I was  unhappy there. Bluesky and Twitter just fit my style more.)

P.P.S. Last week I said I was going to sell Writer job badges, and needed help working out the logistics. I have since changed my mind; now I plan to use them as lead magnets for my mailing list. So if you asked for one and I said I ran out of stamps, your badge is in the mail (without the lanyard, sorry – it just cost too much to ship first class).
