Here are a few stories to read this Monday morning.
- Amazon raised the price of Kindle Unlimited.
- There’s an author suing Amazon, claiming the new Lord of the Rings prequel series plagiarized his fanfiction novel.
- Here are 5 mistakes people commonly make when checking for plagiarism.
- One thing that is missing from this post on why algorithms are bad at recommending books is how Amazon recommends books based on who is paying them.
P.S. One thing I hear every so often from authors is that they will just use their FB page as their author website. I don’t think that is a viable solution even in the short term, but more importantly there are better options available.
If you want to use a social network profile for an author site, you should take a look at Goodreads.com. Unlike FB, it’s set up to promote your books, and GR has a Q&A feature where you can respond to fans, and GR reliably sends out updates to anyone who subscribes to an author.
I would not normally recommend a social media profile, but I’ve seen an author using one, and it works.
