Monday Morning Coffee – 1 August 2022

August 1, 2022

Here are a few stories to read this Monday morning.

  • Mailerlite has a great post on email triggers (automation you can use with your mailing list).
  • Authors need to learn more about readers. Here’s how they can do that.
  • Bookstat, the book market analytics firm that grew out of the Author Earnings Report, has been acquired
  • Amazon is shutting down its cloud storage service, Amazon Drive.  You should probably check to make sure you don’t have files there.
  • We all need to get the attention of customers. Here’s one author who put his book on to a Gameboy cartridge with that goal in mind.
  • Crunch Hype compared Pro Writing Aid to Grammarly, and came to the entirely wrong conclusion that there’s a reason to use Grammarly.
  • Gizmodo just published a pretty fair overview of the Internet Archive piracy case.
  • Some fool writing for Book Riot looked at AAP figures, and asked whether ebook sales were down.  FYI: AAP figures cover publisher ebook revenue, not ebook sales. And they only cover about a quarter to a third of the ebook market. (Also, no one actually knows what the ebook market looks like, and anyone who claims it is going down has an axe to grind.)

P.S. Do I have any subscribers in Charleston WV? I need a recommendation for a handyman or contractor.
