  • That lawsuit accusing Amazon of conspiring with publishers to fix book prices has been refiled. While it may sound nutty, that is mainly the result of how PW framed the lawsuit. Courtney Milan dug through the actual filing (PDF), and she thinks the case has merit.
  • DeviantArt bungled the launch of their AI-powered art plagiarizer
  • Kindlepreneur has a great rundown of words you can safely trim (usually) from your writing.
  • Well that is weird – SFWA published (and then later removed) a blog post on using AI-generated cover art. (I do not have a link, no.)

  • Amazon cuts staff in its Books and Devices divisions.
  • Bookbaby now offers computer-generated audiobook narration at $999 a pop.  Someone remind me, how does this compare to a human narrator? $250 PFH (per finished hour), I think
  • Even with the marked drop in print quality, Digital Books still wear out far faster than print
  • Amazon has made itself $5 billion richer at the expense of working Americans, and state and local gov’t were willing accomplices.

So, earlier today I mentioned in my weekly link post that I was selling The Digital Reader. Based on the questions several subscribers asked, it would appear I need to clear up a few questions.

Yes, I am selling the blog and its content and domain.

No, I did not sell my web design business. I can understand why some might think that (there was a period where I did design websites under The Digital Reader brand) but the truth is today’s sale is more about making a complete and final transition from blogging, and to web design.

While I do plan to keep posting my weekly link posts, I do not ever expect to really get back into blogging, and I kept putting off doing anything productive with the blog’s content, so when the offer came in it seemed like a good way to tie up loose ends while also giving me a little capital boost.
